Hello, everyone! It’s Jessyka Coulter, and today I’m going to give you 3 tips how to help your child prepare for middle school. These tips will work no matter if your child is attending a brick and mortar (physical) school or virtual school.

If you have a child getting ready to start middle school and you (or really your child) is wondering how to prepare for middle school, click that like or heart button to let me know this message is relevant to you.

Before we get into that, I just wanted to tell you a little about me in case you’re curious. I am the CEO and Founder of Ace Cookie Tutoring, and I have helped several students increase their scores on the ACT, especially in the Reading and English sections, and helped others earn As on their papers. Other than the ACT and proofreading, I also specialize in middle school math.

Alright, let’s move on to what you really want to know: 3 ways to prepare for middle school. The first tip is: get to know the physical layout of the school or become familiar with the virtual platform. If your child is moving districts, or your child was out sick, he/she will have missed the orientation students in the district will have attended. And, depending on where in the world you live, there's a good chance COVID-19 prevented orientation from happening. Make sure to schedule a tour before school starts so your students knows where his/her classes and locker are located as well as the cafeteria.

If you child is attending virtual school, learning how to use the school’s chosen online platform is just as important. Give you child a chance to play around in Google Classroom, Schoology, or whatever the middle school is using because there’s a chance the middle school uses a different program than the elementary school.

Before I move on, I want to invite you to join my Facebook group called: Students Aiming for As. I’ll share other tips like these as well as provide step-by-step tutorials and free educational resources. You can join by clicking here: www.facebook.com/groups/asforstudents

Ok. The second tip I want to share with you is: help your student maintain friendships. Middle school can be awkward and uncomfortable for students because everything is new and different including the kids themselves as puberty hits during middle school. No matter if your child is going to a physical or online school, friends are great for your child’s mental health. Having a friend to eat lunch with or ask for classwork help is invaluable to almost all middle schoolers.

So, what do you think? Is this making sense? Are you getting something out of this? I sure hope so! If you are, let me know by clicking that like button or dropping a gif in the comments.

So, the last tip I want to share with you about middle school is: prepare your kids for the new routines. Middle school is usually the first-time students have different teachers either in-person or online for each class, and that can be difficult. The level and amount of homework generally increases, too, which can be a surprise. Understanding how and when to use lockers is another new concept for most middle schoolers. Finally, if your child is going to a physical school, make sure he/she knows the cell phone rules. Some schools are strict and take phones. Others require them to remain in lockers. When it comes to virtual school, I think it’s safe to say the expectation is that phones won’t be a distraction during Zoom lessons.

Well, that’s everything! If you want more help with preparing for school, go to www.facebook.com/groups/asforstudents to join my Facebook group so you can get free study tips, checklists, and educational resources which will help your child ace all of his/her classes. If you have a child starting high school, make sure to check back in tomorrow for a video about preparing for high school.

Thank you! See you in the next video!
